State Of Emergency Had Been Passed in Parliament

The gazette notification issued by the President Ranil Wikramasinghe regarding the implementation of the State of Emergency had been passed in Parliament with a majority of 57 votes today (July 27).

During the voting 120 MP’s had voted in favor of the Gazette notification and 63 were voted against it. A Day prior to the voting the main opposition Samagi Janabalawegaya (SJB) Party had announced they will vote against the state of emergency.

Ten MP’s from the Independent group which had broken away from the government bench a few months ago had voted in favor of the state of emergency along with the government group.
