The Bar Association Of Sri Lanka (BASL) has announced that it will take legal action against the decision taken by President Ranil Wickremesinghe regarding declaring High Security Zones in Colombo District.
The Bar Association will take appropriate legal action against the decision in view of safeguarding the fundamental rights of the General Public the Association had stressed.
The BASL had stated that under the cover of purported order under the section 2 of the Official Secrets Act there is a possibility to detain of persons who violate such orders, violating the freedom of expression, the freedom to peaceful assembly and the freedom of movement all of which are important aspects of the right of the people to dissent in Sri Lanka.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe had yesterday (September 23) issued an extraordinary Gazette notification declaring 18 major state buildings including the Parliamentary Complex, Presidents house and many strategic locations in the Country’s capital City Colombo as high security zones.
