When I met him first in 2008, his eyes spoke of the lonely patch that he was going through. It was at the recording session of a devotional Album. He decided to produce Ayyappa Audio Album titled `Ente Shastavu’, written by him. Somehow he came to know that I was also longing to become a singer and gave me too a chance to sing a solo in his debut musical venture. That was just an experience we have had together to start with.
Months and years passed by but OS was a focused man and kept on writing whenever he got time. As of now he has penned songs for more than 30 albums and two films. 2015 was an unforgettable year for this lyricist. The much deserved ‘best lyricist award’ was conferred on him by the Jury chaired by well known film personality John Paul. He got this for the film Lasagu, produced by Chembrassseri U.P School, Malappuram.
As the only son of Shivasankara Pillai and Thankamma, O.S was born in 1973, in Mundancavu, a small village in Chengannur of Alappuzha district, Kerala. He got educated from Govt J.B.School Mundancavu, Christian College, Chengannur and Madurai Kamaraj University(Master degree in Economics). But, above all he always remembers and cherishes the Saraswathi Vaidika Gurukula Kendra founded by Acharya Narendra Bhooshan. It is here that his life changed for good.
There Acharya Narendra Bhooshnan helped him to learn Sanskrit and Vedic Philosophy. This school turned him to a self realized human being and also sent him on a quest of human existence. Gradually he shifted focus to the essence of ‘Padayani’, a traditional folk dance and ritual art form of Central Tranvancore. Eventually, that influence started flowing as words (His native place Mundancavu is famous for Padayani)
”The rhythm of Pamba river, mystic blending of music and dance in Padayani inspired me a lot”, says Unnikrishnan. ”My father was a farmer and as a child I had to face severe financial problems. My father worked hard to make both ends meet. After completing pre-degree I started working as a salesman in a shop to help my family. In 1999, I became an LIC Agent. That job worked out and gave me a good life. The then Development Officer CMS Nair mentored me well, and under him I achieved remarkable success in the business. Till date I am proudly associated with LIC”, says O.S.
