On a day when Kerala recorded 1564 Covid-19 cases – the highest for a single day so far – State Health Minister K Shylaja Teacher warned that the total positive cases may go up to 10-15 thousand daily next month. There would also be an increase in the number of deaths, she said and added that the state is heading to a worrisome phase.
If the cases indeed cross 10-15 thousand daily, Kerala’s health infrastructure would collapse. Even with around 1000 cases, the health system is over-stressed.
The state’s claim that it had enough number of beds, ventilators and ICU is now coming under a worrying cloud of doubt.
Out of the 1564 new cases recorded on Thursday, Thiruvananthapuram continued to have the highest number of positive cases of 434 followed by Palakkad and Malappuram 202 each, Ernakulam 115, Kozhikode 98, Kollam 74, Pathanamthitta and Thrissur 75 each, Kasaragod 74, Alappuzha 72, Kottayam 53, Idukki 31, Kannur 29 and Wayanad 27.
