Sri Lanka police arrested 12 protesters for anti-government protest

Police had arrested Twelve protesters including the convener of the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) Wasantha Mudalige during the Anti – Government Protest March held at Union Place in Colombo last evening (August 18).

The Convener of the IUSF Wasantha Mudalige who had an arrest warrant issued against him by the Court was arrested whilst fleeing during the Protest march marched towards the President’s Secretariat in Galle Face Colombo last evening. Police had used tear gas along with water cannons to disperse the Protesters it has been reported.

The Protest march which was attended by many Galle Face Protesters was grouped at Borella Junction in Colombo after facing tear gas and water cannons fired by the Police.

Meanwhile, after hearing the arrest of the group of protesters during the Protest march held this evening, Public in North Cereal Province and Students of University Of Kelaniya had protested against the move.
