Russian Tourist Raped in Tamil Nadu

Police detain six men for questioning in temple town of Tiruvannamalai.

Sending shock waves across the small temple town of Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu, a 21-year-old Russian woman was allegedly drugged and gang-raped in a service apartment on Tuesday.

Police have detained six men for questioning after one of them took the unconscious woman to a private hospital. The doctor who examined her alerted the police

Medical examination and police inquiries have revealed that she was sexually assaulted. Medical report indicated that she had bite marks on her face and scratch marks on her body.One of the accused told police that he had accompanied the woman to the temple and ashram. He said he was invited to her apartment on Saturday and had consensual sex with her that night and the following day. Police said he found her unconscious when he returned to the apartment on Monday after buying vegetables and fruits for her.

Police have sought the assistance of woman fluent in Russian language to assist them in obtaining victim’s version. Particulars of the Russian woman’s visit to India and details on the attack would be known once results of lab tests and police inquiry is over.
