Two Indigo planes came face to face over Bengaluru air space.
Mumbai: A potential disaster in the air was averted in the last minute when two IndiGo planes averted a mid-air collision over the Bengaluru airspace.
At risk were nearly 330 passengers. Though the incident happened on Tuesday, it came to light only today.
Aircrafts involved: Coimbatore-Hyderabad and Bengaluru-Cochin flights.
Passengers: Hyderabad-bound plane had 162 passengers; Cochin-bound 166.
Aviation sources told PTI that the vertical separation between the two aircraft was only about 200 feet and a mid-air collision was averted after the Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) alarms went off.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Board (AAIB) has started an investigation into the incident.
