Hours after BJP’s B S Yeddyurappa submitted his resignation to Governor Vajubhai Vala this evening, HD Kumaraswamy was invited to form the next government in Karnataka. The Governor gave him 15 days time to prove his majority, but HDK said he does not that long a rope to prove his strength on the floor of the Assembly.

He will assume office on Monday between 12 noon and 1 pm at the sprawling Kanteerva Stadium in the heart of the city. Sunday will keep him busy appeasing the Gods and the Congress which has already started jostling for power. He said he will soon initiate talks on government formation with the Congress.

Kumaraswamy has invited a host of anti-BJP leaders starting from Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Chief Ministers Mamta Banerjee, Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandrasekhar Rao. Soon after the swearing in, the patriarch of the much failed Third Front H D Deva Gowda would hold a meeting to cobble up a possible new anti-BJP alliance for 2019, sources said. Since Mamta Banerjee is a prominent invitee, it is to be seen if the CPM will also be invited.

Sources said Kumaraswamy may invite Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akilesh Yadav and Mayawati too for the swearing in ceremony.

But HDK said he was a worried man as the BJP will still try to woo and wean his MLAs through threats. We need to keep a strong vigil day and night, he said, leaving many wondering if he will have time to govern as he will have to continuously protect his flock.
