Kerala breaches 1000 Covid cases per day, mulls total lockdown

From registering zero Covid-19 cases last month, Kerala breached the 1000 mark of positive cases on Wednesday to end the day at 1038 even as a worried Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said he may soon impose a total lockdown.

The Capital city Thiruvananthapuram continued to be a worry with 226 testing positive of which 190 were through contacts. Today, 18 health workers got infected with the virus and four councillors too tested positive in the capital city.

The numbers in Thiruvananthapuram may go up as the test results in some clusters are yet to come in.

While Kottayam recorded 133 cases, Allapuzha had 120 and Kochi district 93. Aluva has become a major hotspot with the virus fast spreading to rural areas. The situation in Aluva is very serious even as nuns in a major convent tested positive today.

The state has imposed night curfew.
