The raids come amid reports that money is flowing in Karnataka ahead of elections to the Lok Sabha.

Bengaluru : In a sudden midnight move, the sleuths of the Income Tax department conducted raids across 15 locations in Bengaluru, just days ahead of elections.

The raids were conducted on the residence of businessman Siddiq Sait South End circle of Jayanagar.

The IT officers also raided few businessmen in HSR layout, Jayanagar , Basavanagudi and South End circle.

The raids come amid reports that money is flowing in Karnataka ahead of elections to the Lok Sabha.

Karnataka is among the top states in unaccounted liquor seizure are. Uttar Pradesh leads the list (liquor worth Rs 22.55 crore), Karnataka (Rs 19.88 crore), Andhra Pradesh (Rs 12 crore) Maharashtra (Rs 9.71 crore) and West Bengal (Rs 5.24 crore). A total of Rs 89.64 crore worth of liquor has been seized from across the country.

Seizures worth nearly Rs 540 crore in six categories – unaccounted cash, liquor, drugs, precious metals, freebies – have been made by various enforcement agencies from across states and union territories in the aforementioned period.

In terms of quantity of liquor seized, Maharashtra tops the list at 12.03 lakh litre followed by UP (8.06 lakh litre), Karnataka (4.90 lakh litre) and West Bengal (4.4 lakh litre). Despite being a dry state, Gujarat figures on sixth position, leaving behind states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Telangana where there is no liquor ban.

As per the figures provided by the ECI, precious metals worth Rs 162.93 crore tops the list of goods seized as per value followed by cash (Rs 143.47 crore), drugs (Rs 131.75 crore), liquor (Rs 89.64 crore) and freebies (Rs 12.20 crore).
