GHMC elections: BJP second major party, Owaisi said - this temporary victory

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi has emerged as the largest party in the results of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) election on Friday, winning 55 seats.

In this election, the BJP has won 48 seats in a surprise performance whereas it won only 4 seats in the last election.

At the same time, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen i.e. AIMIM has won 44 seats whereas in the last election also AIMIM had won 44 seats.

The TRS has suffered a major loss in this election, having won 99 seats in the last election but this time it is far from majority.

The biggest disappointment has come to the Congress which has had to be satisfied with two seats. However, no one had expected any miraculous results from the Congress.

At present, the results of the election have been released for 149 seats out of only 150 seats. There was some dispute over the election symbol on one seat, due to which the court granted a stay. The polling held on December 1 saw only 46.55 percent voting.

Amit Shah thanked the public

State Congress Committee President in Telangana Uttam Kumar Reddy has resigned from his post. Reddy was the Telangana Congress chief since 2014

This election had become a question of prestige for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen i.e. AIMIM.

In Telangana state, where the Bharatiya Janata Party has only two MLAs out of 119 and where there are only 4 MPs in 17 Lok Sabha seats, BJP had given its full strength in a municipal election.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi has thanked the voters for making it the largest party in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election.

The party has said that some seats have been damaged, which it did not expect. At the same time, the Bharatiya Janata Party has also thanked the people of Telangana. Home Minister Amit Shah has also tweeted a tweet on these results.

He thanked the people of Telangana for expressing their confidence in the ‘BJP’s politics of development’.

BJP national president JP Nadda has said that this can explain the outcome of the assembly elections in Telangana in 2023.

The annual budget of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is about five and a half thousand crores and the population is about 82 lakhs.

What did Owaisi say?

After the election results, AIMIM party chief Asaduddin Owaisi held a press conference saying that his party won 44 of the election boys in 51 seats.

On becoming the second largest party of BJP, he said that the people of Telangana will stop their growing footing in the coming time. He said that the success of BJP is only temporary success, when there will be assembly elections in 2023 in Telangana then they will not get any success on it.

Owaisi said that his AIMIM party worked hard, the people of Hyderabad have shown confidence in them and no one has won the seats in Hyderabad.

He said that there are 44 wards in Hyderabad Parliamentary constituency of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, in which his party contested 34 seats and won 33 seats.

Will he support the TRS for Mayor and Deputy Mayor or not? On this question, he said that after talking to the party officials and ward counsellor, he will decide on this.

In this election, Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath campaigned. After the election results, Yogi Adityanath tweeted that ‘Bhagyanagar’s destiny is starting’.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said during the election campaign that the name of Hyderabad will be changed to Bhagyanagar if the BJP wins the election.

On Bhagyanagar’s question, Owaisi said that where Yogi Adityanath campaigned, ‘there is no wear and tear’.

Owaisi said, “The polarization of BJP in my Hyderabad parliamentary constituency has not worked. How long will BJP continue to contest with my name? I have won 44 seats by fighting 51 seats, so why was BJP taking my name everywhere.”

Why was this election important for BJP?

The BJP was trying its luck in this election and trying to hunt many birds with one stone.

The first is that as the party president, Amit Shah had set a goal in 2017, to take the BJP from panchayat to parliament. This is BJP’s attempt to achieve the same goal.

Second is that due to internal politics in TRS, their grip in the state is already a little loose. BJP feels that this is the right opportunity for TRS to get hurt.

When the monsoon rained twice this time, it had a very bad effect in the urban areas. In a way, the entire city was submerged twice. The TRS had to face the fury of the local public due to this.

The BJP is considering the right opportunity to bring itself in place of Congress in the state.

Also, AIMIM is always given the ‘B-Team’ status of BJP in the elections of other states. BJP wants to break that confusion in this election.

The fourth reason is the budget of GHMC. The budget of these municipal corporations is about five and a half thousand crore rupees annually. Many political analysts consider this municipal corporation as the key to state power.
