The Union Health Ministry has categorically stated that there is no community spread of Covid-19 in Kerala or any other part of the country.
The World Health Organisation has certain parameters for community transmission and such a scenario has not come so far in India, the Health Ministry said.
Moreover, there is no definitive definition to classify a spread as community transmission of coronavirus. Clusters cannot be considered as community transmission, the Ministry clarified.
On July 17, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan confirmed the community spread of Covid-19 in two coastal villages in the capital city, Thiruvananthapuram — Pulluvila and Poonthura. He made this announcement in his customary press meet and this took the Union Health Ministry by surprise.
