MNM was allotted battery torch as party symbol by Election Commission.
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India on Sunday allotted ‘battery torch’ symbol to Kamal Haasan’s political party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM).
Kamal Haasan welcomed the development and said that his party will endeavour to be a “torch bearer” in politics.
“MNM thanks the Election Commission for granting us the “Battery Torch” symbol for the forthcoming elections. So appropriate. @maiamofficial will endeavour to be the “Torch-Bearer” for a new era in TN and Indian politics,” Kamal Haasan tweeted.
MNM had approached the Election Commission two weeks ago for the symbol.
Election Commission of India allotted symbols to 39 political parties on Sunday.
Kamal Haasan launched Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) on February 21 last year.
He made the official announcement in a public meeting in Madurai in Tamil Nadu.
Kamal Haasan’s party has also decided to fight solo in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls after finding it hard to seal an alliance with any party in Tamil Nadu.
