UDF Wipes out Left Front in Kerala, Leads in 19 of 20 Seats in Kerala

Congress looks to sweep southern state; no lotus bloom this time also

Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress-led UDF seems to be heading for a clean sweep in Kerala with the front leading in 19 out of 20 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

The ruling CPM-led LDF was trailing in all seats except Kasaragod and Alappuzha around 11. am.

Thiruvananthapuram and Pathanamthitta seats, which witnessed triangular contests, showed leads swinging in favour of the UDF and BJP in the initial hours.

However, UDF candidates Shashi Tharoor and Antony Antony have been maintaining a steady lead in these seats now.

The southern state had witnessed heavy polling of 77.68 percent, the highest in 30 years, where the ruling CPM-led LDF and the opposition Congress-headed UDF put up a fierce fight to garner maximum seats.

BJP also gave a tough time for the traditional fronts at least in three seats this time, riding on the Sabarimala women entry issue.
