SC holds Prashant Bhushan guilty of contempt for derogatory tweets against the judiciary
New Delhi: In what was expected to happen, the Supreme Court has held activist lawyer Prashant Bhushan guilty of contempt of court for his tweets allegedly derogatory against the Chief Justice of India and the judiciary.
The quantum of punishment will be announced on August 20, Justice Arun Mishra said in his verdict.
The apex court pronounced its verdict in a suo motu contempt case against Bhushan for his two tweets allegedly against the judiciary.
The tweets were against the judges regarding their conduct in their personal capacity and they did not obstruct administration of justice.
Now the focus will be on the quantum of punishment which is likely to be tough. This is because the court has been upset with Bhushan for quite some time. Will they tighten the noose or not is to be seen.
