Republic of Arnab Goswami, You Are Wrong on Shashi-Tharoor-News-Time-Now

Newly launched Republic TV of Arnab Goswami put out a story on Congress MP Shashi Tharoor which was nothing but a recycling of old and known facts to get TRPs.

It was with great fanfare and noise that Arnab Goswami’s Republic TV `broke’ a `super exclusive’ on Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and the mysterious death of Sunanda Pushkar last night. There is nothing super or exclusive about the story. All the questions raised by Arnab were, or are being, examined by the investigating authorities.

Republic of Arnab Goswami, You Are Wrong on Shashi-Tharoor-News-Time-NowIt looks like Arnab was recycling old facts to make them look new. The reporter Prema Sreedevi, who spoke to Narayanan, the Man Friday of Tharoor, had nothing substantial to reveal.  It was at best a poorly recorded telephonic conversation.

If the intention was to get some TRPs, Arnab might have achieved a little of the goal, but, in the process, lost the game of credibility.

Republic of Arnab Goswami, You Are Wrong on Shashi-Tharoor-News-Time-NowSunanda Pushkar, wife of Tharoor, was found dead at a suite in a five star hotel in South Delhi on the night of January 17, 2014. Investigations are still on. At this stage, it would be wrong for Tharoor to answer questions that are part of evidence gathering.

Reacting to the so-called exclusive, Shashi Tharoor called it “misrepresentations and outright lies” and called Arnab an unprincipled showman masquerading as a journalist.

He said in a Facebook post:

“Exasperating farrago of distortions, misrepresentations and outright lies being broadcast by an unprincipled showman masquerading as a journalist.

“I am angered that someone would exploit a human tragedy for personal gain and TRPs. I challenge him to prove his false claims in a court of law.”

But Tharoor’s tweet calling the telecast “Exasperating farrago of distortions” made the word farrago go viral and then followed all the fun.

The word Farrago was a trending search on Google.

Someone put out an FYI on Farrago.

Farrago might seem an unlikely relative of “farina” (the mealy breakfast cereal), but the two terms have their roots in the same Latin noun. In Latin, farrago meant “mixed fodder” – cattle feed, that is. It was also used more generally to mean “mixture.”

If you describe something as a farrago, you are critical of it because you think it is a confused mixture of different types of things.

Another tweet read: Thanks to Shashi Tharoor, my life is no longer a mess. It is a farrago.

One tweet took a political twist when @rahulroushan tweeted: UPA was an exasperating farrago of unscrupulousness, criminality, incompetence, abomination and debasement masquerading as a government.

There was also a huge picture of eminent scholars trying to understand the meaning of Tharoor‘s “Exasperating farrago of distortions, misrepresentations & outright lies” posted by @KyaUkhaadLega

Said @GabbbarSingh : This morning I woke up, immediately went to the bathroom, sat down, and let out a ‘Farrago of distortions’
