Six people died in Kozhikode district due to landslides
Heavy rains pounded north Kerala killing six people. Most of the deaths occurred in Thamaraserry in Kozhikode district due to landslide caused by heavy rains.
Reports indicated that a group of people had created a water harvesting system top a hill. The weight of the water body may have triggered the landslide.
A red alert has been declared in four north districts of Kozhikode, Malappuram, Wyanad and Kasaragode.
Wayanad remained cut off from the rest of Kerala as landslides and heavy rains washed away roads.
Heavy rains also caused huge losses in Palakkad, Idukki and Kottayam. An orange alert has been declared in Alapuzha and Kottayam.
Traffic on the busy Kozhikode-Mangaluru and Palakkad-Thrissur highway has been badly hit.
According to IMD, heavy to very heavy rains may continue till Monday.
