Post Karnataka election results, Congress in Kerala got a boost when Kerala Congress Mani Group extended its support.
Post Karnataka elections, the Congress in Kerala got a big boost when Kerala Congress (M) today decided to support the UDF in the crucial Chengannur by-poll.
Announcing this here today, Kerala Congress (M) chief K M Mani said the poll results in Karnataka is a clear indication that a strong anti-BJP force is taking shape under the Congress. Hence he decided to support the UDF to further strengthen secular forces.
He said UDF leaders including former chief minister Oommen Chandy, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, Congress leader M M Hassan and IUML leader and MP P K Kunhalikutty had met him yesterday. Incidentally, this was the first time that the UDF leaders were meeting Mani at his residence after KC(M) left the UDF.Earlier, Mani was weighing his options to support the LDF. But his hopes of joining the LDF ended as veteran CPM leader V S Achuthanandan attacked him in an election speech on Sunday saying that the LDF would win without the support KC(M).
After the strong opposition from the CPI and Achuthanandan, Mani had to face resistance from his camp also in the form of P J Joseph and his supporters who were against joining the Left front.
