Elise Stapleton of UK is a unique and spirited cancer patientElise Stapleton of UK is a unique and spirited cancer patient. She had vowed not to lose her humour after she was diagnosed with an uncommon form of cancer.

And as part of her humour, she named her tumour after US President Donald Trump because it is “one big, ugly, useless mass that is good at one thing: hurting people”.

The 24-year-old shaved her head on Facebook Live and poked fun at Trump while inspiring other cancer patients by speaking about her battle to mark World Cancer Day.

Elise was left stunned when doctors told her she had Hodgkin lymphoma in September last year.

Elise started chemotherapy and said her first treatment was rough, leaving her with side effects including nausea, diarrhoea and fatigue.

As she tried to keep her spirits high she started a blog to inspire others, and gave her tumour an unusual name.

Elise, who now wears a wig, said in her blog: “It was really important to me because it felt empowering and it gave me a voice. People were shocked when they read about it all.

“They couldn’t believe that in the blog I was laughing and joking about it but I just said if you don’t laugh you cry.”

Elise started to feel better after receiving treatment and recent tests have revealed that her cancer is gone.

She said: “I’d managed to kick cancer’s ass. I still have a shadow – non-cancerous may I add – lingering around but we’ll soon sort that out.

“Even the doctor was shocked at how well I’d reacted for such a sizeable tumour. We were expecting it to be maybe half gone.”
