Infosys employee detained for urging people to sneeze and spread Covid

Bengaluru: In a shocking Facebook post, a senior software engineer working with Infosys here urged people to go out and sneeze in the public and spread Coronavirus.

While Infosys promptly dismissed him after checking that the post was indeed made by the employee, the police here detained Mujeeb Mohammad, the man behind the FB post.

Mohammad works as a senior technology architect at Infosys. The company confirmed on twitter that his services were being terminated after due investigation.

In a Facebook post, Mohammad wrote, “Let’s join hands, go out and sneeze with open mouth in public. Spread the virus.”

“The person who put this post saying people should go out and sneeze and spread the virus has been detained. His name is Mujeeb. He works in a software company,” Bengaluru Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil said in a statement, adding an investigation is underway.

“He has been a resident of Bengaluru for around 25 years. A case has been registered against him,” Patil said.

The police said Mohammad has been booked under Section 505 (making statement which causes alarm or fear in public, and also inciting & provokes others) of the Indian Penal Code.

Infosys added on Twitter that the social media post by the employee is against Infosys’ code of conduct and its commitment to responsible social sharing. Infosys has a zero-tolerance policy towards such acts and has accordingly, terminated the services of the employee.

“We are deeply concerned with an inappropriate post being attributed to an Infosys employee. We strongly reaffirm our commitment to responsible social-sharing,” Infosys added.
