The world is moving from old rusty newspaper advertisements to new handy smartphone pop ups and so is India. The biggest problem I can see with India’s digital marketing scenario, primarily in tier 2 and tier 3 cities like Dharwad is poor internet infrastructure. But the future is bright because India is modernizing at a very rapid pace and mobile phones are a necessity as food, shelter and clothing. It is expected that Indian middle class which roughly is 700 million strong is expected to gobble up goods and services in huge quantities. Currently Indian middle class spends around $6 a day, which experts predict can go up to $10 a day.
Uses of Digital Marketing
When it comes to my city Dharwad, considered as a pensioner’s paradise, which is a tier 2 city, digital marketing is yet to make an impact. Some 20% of the youth may know the full potential of digital world but the majority lack basic knowledge. Digital marketing is viewed as a scam by locals but in reality, digital marketing can do wonders for local businesses and even provide an opportunity for young people to start a business on their own. Activities like Search Engine Optimization, Search Engine Marketing, Social Media Marketing, if implemented in a proper way can almost triple revenues in a short span of time.
Gone are the days when a business would rely on distributing surveys to collect information about the market. Data gathering, data analysis is the new way for a company to do its market research. Using free tools like Google Analytics, Adobe analytics one can easily recognize their market base and even generate leads. Going social media savvy has a lot of advantages, we can recognize what’s trending in market and adjust our goods and services accordingly. Dharwad, just like many other tier 2 cities has immense potential. The youth of this country are coming up with many entrepreneurial ideas and experimenting with their professional life.
So, what’s next for digital marketing in tier 2 and tier 3 cities of India? The answer is everything. The immense growth potential of these new cities would make India a giant in digital world. Job creation is another area where these cities would benefit. As long as there is hunger to live a better life in the youth of this country, there is a place for all new ideas.
